The picture on the bottom left demonstrates the position of the image
intensifier (II) and camera assembly as it is moved to the RAO and cranial
position. Since the inter-ventricular plane lies between the right shoulder
the left nipple, the II "looks" at the outline of the inter-ventricular
septum from a superior or upper position. The LAD runs along the top portion
of the profile while the circumflex moves away (to the back of the heart)
at right angles, as demonstrated in the video clip at the bottom of the
page. The picture on the right (above) demonstrates the II in various
cranial positions (RAO, antero-posterior and LAO).
The video clip on the left was obtained in
the cardiac cath lab as the left coronary angiogram was recorded in the
RAO/cranial projection. The movie clip demonstrate both a "video" representation
(coronary angios, as they appear on playback in the cath lab) and the
"cine" or cineangiographic equivalent as seen on the developed film. The
two views correspond to the negative and positive prints of photography
film. You can toggle back and forth between the two views by clicking
on the respective button. You can also click a button to see a labeled
freeze frame of the coronary angiogram.
